GOSH Holographic

Yes I have finally got around to posting this. I've been so busy lately I hardly even have time to paint my nails anymore, never mind blog about them!  But I got my hands on GOSH's Holographic Hero so I had to share!

On a trip into town a few weeks ago I was having a wee look around the make up displays in Superdrug when I came across this in the GOSH section. I had no idea they had even released their holographic again! So as soon as I saw it I HAD to have a bottle!

I applied  Barbara Daly base coat and two coats of Holographic Hero. I didn't apply a top coat as I know that top coats seem to spoil the holographic effect. 

I know that it is now labeled as a 24 hour polish due to how bad it is for chipping but mine lasted for two days with no chips and I'm sure it could have lasted longer if I had left it.  So I was very pleased with that result! A friend who also has this polish didn't wear a base coat and hers chipped within 24 hours so I think a base coat gives it a little extra something to grip onto.

The holographic effect is AMAZING! I was so excited by it, and it looks gorgeous in direct sunlight. Due to how busy I've been I never managed to get a picture in proper sunlight but it looks amazing!

Black Holo

I have another Kleancolor Chunky Holo today! This time it's Chunky Holo Black.

I applied Barbara Daly base, two coats of Golden Rose's shade 53 (which is a lovely metallic royal blue), one coat of Chunky Holo Black and NYC's Grand Central Station top coat.

Chunky Holo Black is packed full of different sized opal holographic glitters in a black/orangey jelly base (sounds horrific but it is actually lovely). Due to the base colour it changed my royal blue into a blue/purple duochrome which was AWESOME! I didn't expect it to do that! And the opal glitters changed from pink to green to mauve depending on the light.

I can't wait to try this polish over black, I did a quick swatch and there was lots of orange holo-y goodness going on there, perfect for autumn/Halloween!

Teal Holo

Wow I've been busy lately! I've been at uni this week, it's been pretty hectic and it doesn't look like it'll be slowing down anytime soon... Hopefully I'll be able to keep up with blogging on top of uni and driving lessons!

Today I have another Kleancolor beauty to show you, Chunky Holo Teal. This is just as gorgeous as the others, and it's my second time wearing it in a month. (It is seriously rare that I wear a polish twice in one month so that just shows how much I love it.)

I applied Barbara Daly base, two coats of Tiger's Shade 15 which is a pretty turquoise creme, two coats of Chunky Holo Teal and 2true top coat.

Chunky Holo Teal consists of small round holographic glitters in a pale blue jelly base that shift colour. I've seen orange, green, gold, blue, peach, pink and purple colours and there are probably many more!

Kleancolor has definitely become a favourite brand of mine, I've been very impressed with their polishes so far, and I still have three more to try!

Holo Chrome

I saw this polish on one of the blogs I follow a few months ago and I was completely taken with it. I HAD to have a bottle. This polish was the whole reason I ordered my Kleancolors polishes and it definitely didn't disappoint.

I applied Barbara Daly Goodbye Yellow base, one coat of Essence's Chuck ( a lovely blue creme), two coats of Holo Chrome and 2true top coat.  Holo Chrome is a little gritty so the top coat is definitely needed to even that out but after that it's perfect.

Holo Chrome sits in a purple jelly base with tiny holographic glitters and slightly bigger (but still tiny) blue glitters. The blue glitters keep the polish looking primarily purple despite the holographic rainbows it throws off in the light.

This picture is super blurry but it shows off the rainbows a bit better than I was able to clearly photograph. (It still looks way better in real life). And my grandad's a fan, you can't really go wrong with that!

Chunky Holo Purple

I came home to a delivery of six new Kleancolor beauties and I am so excited to show them to you guys!

The first one I tried was Chunky Holo Purple and it is absolutely marvelous.

I applied Rimmel base, one coat of a purple creme from Flormar (shade no N009), one coat of Chunky Holo Purple and 2true top coat. I probably could have done with another coat of the holo but it was still pretty with the amount I had on.

The holo consists of tiny circular holographic glitters in a sheer purple jelly base. The holo throws off gold, red, purple, blue, green and pink depending on the light. It was extremely hard to photograph! The only downside would be the drying time. I am extremely impatient between coats so I ended up with bubbling plus indentations after I had finished my nails because they still took a while to dry.

But trust me, in person it was fabulous!

Holo French Manicure

I have another holographic to show you today!

This one I bought a while back on a trip to Livingston and the Bodycare shop. It was only £1.99 so I didn't have high hopes, but I thought it would be worth a try.

On a side note, a Bodycare shop opened up in my city a few weeks ago and I bought some other Technic polishes. One of them is completely fine but the other one smells like really strong sewage, I'm not even joking! I have no idea if its the formula for that colour or if there is something wrong with my bottle but its terrible! I'm really tempted to take it back to the shop just to see the shop assistants face when they smell it! Haha, safe to say I wont be using that polish!

Anyway, onto my nails.

I applied Rimmel base and two coats of Technic's nameless holographic. I was pleasantly surprised! The holographic is really quite visible, even indoors. Definitely better than what I was expecting! The formula is quite thick as well, so two coats was all I needed. My Catherine Arley holo either has to be layered over silver polish or you need quite a few coats for full coverage.

I then decided to add a little stamping. I used Konad plate M19 and Konad black Special  Polish to create a French tip design and added a Rimmel top coat. This was my first time using this plate and I had heard that it is one of the hardest plates to use due to positioning and ensuring there is enough polish filling the design. I didn't find it that much of a problem, and I think my positioning was alright for a first try.

Another plus with this polish is that a top coat didn't ruin the holographic at all! And I know how much of a problem that is with more expensive holos. The only problem is getting a good photo of the holo-y goodness! So all in all I'm pretty impressed with my little bargain.

Peach Holo

Like I said in yesterdays post, I bought a lot of polishes while I was in Turkey.

My initial plan had been to keep the same manicure for the whole two weeks I was there but who am I kidding? A week in and I had already bought myself 8 polishes, some nail polish remover and some cotton pads.

I decided to try my holo over one of the polishes I had bought seeing as I had loved it so much over the silver.

This polish is number 27 from Cecile and is a gorgeous peach with silver glitter dust (what is it called when it isn't a shimmer but isn't quite glitter either? I'm gonna call it glitter dust) through it. I will definately show you it on its own at some point in the future. It is just as pretty without the holo.

Due to my plan of not painting my nails I had no base or top coat with me, so this is just two coats of 27 and one coat of Catherine Arley's 676 over that.

This is SUCH a pretty combo in real life. I loved it even more than I liked the silver and that was a LOT.

Due to the lack of base/top coat there was minimal tip wear and chipping but considering I was in and out of the pool all day, plus going out at night I think it fared pretty well! This lasted until today, so about a week with only a little damage. Not bad.

Holographic Catherine Arley 676

So I have returned from my two weeks in Turkey with a much lighter purse, twelve new polishes and two manis to show you.

Like I said in my last post I took my holographic on holiday with me to see how it would look in PROPER sunlight, not the silly lightbulb strength light we get in Scotland.

I got Catherine Arley's holographic 676 as a birthday present from my mum and hadn't got around to trying it out yet, so I decided a holiday in 100+ degrees was the perfect time to try it out.

The day before I left I did my nails.

I used Rimmel base coat, a coat of Maybelline's Silver Speed and two coats of 676. I didn't apply a top coat as I have heard a lot about top coats ruining the holographic effect and I really wanted to see it in all it's glory.

It fared well for a over a week with minimal tip wear. The only problem was that the chemicals in my suncream seemed to dull the holographic effect a bit which was disappointing. Also the heat seemed to melt the polish a little to it was possible to scrape off a layer with your fingernail quite easily...

Apart from that I was very impressed with the holo. It is much better than what the pictures show, but we all know that holos are notoriously difficult to photograph.
